EYFS Information Meeting

What is the Early Years Foundation Stage? The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the stage of education for children from birth to the end of the Reception year. It is based on the recognition that children learn best through play and active learning.

A trap for baddies! http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20110202171650/http:/www.qcda.gov.uk/assessment/352.aspx

Learning Journeys The Learning Journey is an open record of your child’s learning and development. It is a personal record of that unique child as it builds up a picture of what a child knows, understands, feels and can do. Each child will have a Learning Journey that includes: Observations: formal observations, snapshot notes; Children’s work: photographs, pieces of work; Voices: comments from the child

(National Assessment Agency, 2008) Partnership with Parents “Parents are children’s first and most enduring educators. When parents and practitioners work together in early years settings, the results have a positive impact on children’s development and learning.” (National Assessment Agency, 2008)

The First Term We will find out what the children already know and can do and use this information to help us develop a baseline assessment for each child. We would value any contributions you would like to make in helping us get to know your child’s needs.

The Weekly Routine PE: Maple class – Monday and Wednesday Beech class – Monday and Thursday Forest Schools: Maple class – Monday – 9.30am-11.30am Beech class – Tuesday – 9.30am-11.30am

Forest Schools Forest Schools is an innovative educational approach to outdoor play and learning in a woodland environment.

How can you help your child? Play practical Maths and Literacy based games and activities. Consolidate their learning at home, for example, sounds, number recognition, counting, name writing, pencil etc. Help the children to develop a sense of independence, for example, by encouraging them to organise their belongings in the morning and to dress and undress themselves. Read with, and, to your child.

Finally… Please take this as an opportunity to have a look around your child’s classroom. Feel free to ask any questions! Thank you! 14
