Army Reserve Simultaneous Membership Program

What is Army Reserve SMP? SMP – Simultaneous Membership Program A leader development program designed to facilitate college education for graduating seniors and prepare them to serve as commissioned officers in the United States Army Reserve. SMP Cadets serve in both a University ROTC program and the Army Reserves The goal of the SMP program is to produce qualified, capable Army Reserve Officers through an Reserve Officer Training Corps Program They serve in the Reserves as well as ROTC so they gain valuable leadership experience while participating in ROTC.

Qualifications PARTICIPATING Soldier in the Army Reserve Attend one weekend a month and two weeks in summer Complete Basic Training and AIT(Standard or Alt) Accepted into a University offering ROTC Academically align themselves and incorporate Military Science classes Non Scholarship Cadet Eligible to contract with ROTC: Meet Height/Weight Standards Pass Physical Fitness Test MEPS physical with 2 years or pass DODMERB Enrolled in 4 year University and Military Science Classes Students interested in this program must enlist into the Army Reserve Be accepted at a university offering ROTC

ROTC Universities Michigan State University University of Michigan Lansing Community College University of Michigan Wayne State University University of Detroit Mercy Oakland University Davenport University Western Michigan University Grand Valley State University Calvin College Hope College Albion College Olivet College Central Michigan University Ferris State University Eastern Michigan University Spring Arbor University Baker College of Jackson Jackson Community College Washtenaw Community College Northern Michigan University Michigan Technological University Finlandia University Universities in Michigan that offer ROTC programs The Community Colleges listed underneath offer the program but the student will travel to the main school for classes and Lab The Universities listed underneath are affiliated schools where the student can complete the classes and lab without traveling They can take classes from a Community College but cannot contract until they are accepted/attending the four year school

Basic Pay for Training Basic Training: $3244(E2) AIT: $3244(E2) Bonus: ½ of bonus(receipt upon completion of BT/AIT) LDAC Pay: $2,061 (Summer of your Junior year) Annual Training: $1622(E2) $2061(E5) Students will be paid Active Duty Pay for Basic Training and Job Training. Basic Training is 10 weeks. Job Training is 6-24 weeks. LDAC is 5 weeks Annual Training is 14 days They will receive half of their bonus. Once they contract with ROTC the rest of the bonus will NOT be paid out. It will not be recouped.

Financial Benefits for College Tuition Drill Pay: $216(E2) $274(E5) GI Bill: $333 Kicker: $350 Stipend: $350/$450/$500 Tuition Assistance: $4500 $2592 $3288 $3330 $3500 $3500-$5000 $4500 Total: $17422 Sophomore Total: $18422 Junior Total: $ 18922 Senior Drill pay is for 12 months. They will be paid prior to Basic Training/AIT as an E2 or E3. Once they contract with ROTC they will be an SMP and they will be paid as an E-5 for drill GI Bill and Kicker are for 10 months, they can only draw these benefits while in school full time The cadet stipend is paid for 10 months while school is in session. This money should be used for Room and Board and other costs but the money is direct deposited into their account so they can technically use it for whatever they want. Tuition Assistance is paid to the school

Tuition and Fees for Michigan Universities Michigan State University: $11,434 Eastern Michigan University: $8,190 University of Michigan: $12,952 Western Michigan University: $7,654 Central Michigan University: $ 10,170 Northern Michigan University: $7,454

Life as an ROTC Cadet Being a college student is top priority 6-12 hours of ROTC activities per week Military Science Class (1-3 hours) Leadership Laboratories (2 hours) Physical Training (3 hours) Extracurricular Groups (3 hours) One mandatory weekend training event per semester at Fort Custer, MI

The Cadet Journey Field Training/Leadership Labs Freshman Sophomore Junior Senior Foundations of Officership  Individual Leadership Studies Leadership and Problem Solving Combat Leadership LDAC Basic Leadership Leadership and Teamwork Leadership & Ethics Officership Military History Field Training/Leadership Labs Leadership Assessment/Development Structured as a Crawl, Walk, Run Students work through basic concepts and tasks during the first two years with MS 110 and 210 courses In between Junior and Senior Year attend LDAC where they will qualify, take a record pt test, land navigation/night land nav, leadership scenarios. Based on LDAC/GPA/Extracurricular activities and overall performance as a cadet they are competing for Active Duty selection and Branch. They can elect to compete for a Reserve slot if they would prefer or have a great plan set up here. Gold Bar Bachelors Degree

LDAC Leadership Development Assessment Course 5 weeks at Fort Lewis, WA the summer after Junior year Cadets evaluated on leadership ability through various individual and team building exercises Physical Fitness Test Land Nav/Night Land Nav Rifle Qualification

Life as an Army Reserve Soldier Drill with Unit One Weekend a month Sat/Sun Two 4 day Drills-Qualification/Record PT test Paid as an E-5 once contracted with ROTC Three Week Annual Training Units Yearly Exercise Non deployable once contracted with ROTC

Graduation and Commission Upon Graduation from the College the student will be Commissioned as a 2LT in the Army Reserve or Active Army if they choose. Army Reserve: Continue with One Weekend a Month and Two weeks in Summer Earn $366.08 for each Weekend Training Earn $ 1372.80 for Annual Training Healthcare and Life Insurance available Active Army: $2745.60 per month for base pay Housing allowance based on location Full Benefits package to include medical, dental, life insurance and 30 days of vacation each year Opportunities to travel
