Aim and objectives The objective of the conference was to discuss the future challenges and opportunities strengthening the protection of the rights of the child as well as to share international best practice implementing international law on the fight against child sexual exploitation and abuse, the reduction of domestic violence against children and to share examples of best international practice.

In the framework of the 25 th Anniversary of the UNCRC and priorities of the Council of Europe Strategy for the Rights of the Child, the event aimed to discuss the effective implementation of children’s rights on a national level and more specifically focus on the following topics: Protecting the rights of the child: preventing and reducing all forms of violence against children through the effective enforcement of legal frameworks; Combating sexual violence against children: good practices in preventing sexual abuse, reporting and ensuring investigation proceedings which are in the best interest of the child; Responses to domestic violence against children; Children and young people as agents of change: empowering children to combat all forms of violence against them

Participants who have heard the Lithuanian and international experts and assessed the importance of the reports of UNCRC and CoE instruments to protect children from various forms of violence and to ensure the participation of children, decided to continue the following works: 1) Consistent implementation of the provisions of the Council of Europe Convention against child sexual exploitation and abuse and the European Union directive on combating sexual abuse, sexual exploitation of children and child pornography; 2) Implementation of the UN CRC recommendations to Lithuania; 3) Strengthen cooperation with international organizations in the field of child welfare and disseminate information to the public; 4) Ensure the continuity of the National Programme for the Prevention of Violence Against Children and Assistance to Children; 5) Assess the adequacy of the existing legal framework and practical implementation, especially for vulnerable groups of children and protection against discrimination on any ground; 6) Promote positive parenting, enabling the (future) parents to acquire or expand their knowledge of child-raising, caring and other relevant issues; 7) Develop complex actions of social, health and other areas to reduce child and family poverty and social exclusion
