Teacher Roles  MENTOR  Leads student decision making in and out of the classroom environment.  EDUCATOR  Relay knowledge to students.  Consider the number of hours you will spend with your students.  Average Educator 180 days X 40 minutes/per student = 120 hours.  Music Educator 180 days X 40 minutes/per student X 6 years (7-12) = 720 hours.  This does not account for after school activities.

Your Most Influential Role as an Educator is that of a Person  Compassion  Understanding  Involvement  These all deal with the personal lives of your students.  BE CAREFUL!!!!

TEACHER CHOICES  When teachers cross the line.  How does this happen?  What do you do?  Who do you go to?  How do the choices of other educators affect your professional status?  Protect yourself.  Protect your students.  Know the law.  Know your part. 

TECHNOLOGY   Texting  Twitter  Facebook / My Space  Any written communication, regardless of intent or context, could be used to hold you liable for situations involving students.

 Allegations and Reputations Whether true or not, once an allegation has been made about you or tied to you in some way, it is very difficult to ameliorate your reputation.

 Are teachers held to a higher standard?
