Storage Devices or Backing Storage Alex leveY and Louis Carr

Introduction to Storage Devices Any type of device which is used to store data and memory is known as a storage device. There are several different types for example USB, Hard drive storage for computers and games consoles etc., magnetic tape CDs DVDs and now even the use of cloud by companies such as apple and Microsoft.

How It works Storage devices main purpose is to store memory and data. There are two ways of storing this, one is internally, which are memory devices located inside the system, such as hard drive or hard disk, This includes programmes such as Microsoft, data that is saved to the system and is very important to users that it is backed up which is where external storage is used so that data and memory can be backed up. Online storage is mainly used today for backing up memory, however magnetic tape has been known to be used in the past but is a very time consuming process to find the data required should the original be lost. USB’s etc. can also be used for smaller amounts of data storage.

Use of Storage Devices in hospitals Data is a very private and important part in hospital use, so it is key that all data and personal records are stored safely using a storage device internally and also backed up correctly externally , should the hospital lose these records and data, for example during a fire or should the hospital burn down, then it is important that it is backed up externally in a separate location outside the hospital so that these records are kept safe and no damage has come to the data, magnetic tape would be most likely as the data would need to be stored in mass and this would be most suitable.
