Responsibility that comes with Free Speech  The concept of democracy is based on the idea of freedom of speech.  The right of freedom of speech is particularly important to the media.  They utilize the freedom of expression to inform the public about current situations.  The internet and blogs provide major outlets for freedom of speech.

Evolution of Freedom of Speech The ways of communicating and expressing opinions has grown. Early forms: -Bill of Rights in the Constitution -Free Speech Movement 1960’s protesting -Internet -blogs, social networking

Benefits of Freedom of Speech  Keeps the public informed  People can express their opinions.  Keeps a flow of ideas.

Criticisms  Internet and media falsely portray or exaggerate information.  Through blogs anyone can seem to be an expert on anything.  While there’s more information out there, more chances for false information.

Our View  The internet provides a great outlet for information and freedom of speech.  Blogs, social networking sites  Everyone can have their say  But with the freedom of speech comes responsibility.  Have to make sure that no false information is given out, or information that is said with the intent of being malicious.
