Baby Steps to Homework Independence

Practice habits that will be needed in the future – college and career readiness Provide extra practice Connect school and home

Consistent place where children can complete homework Free of clutter and distraction Provide tools students will need to complete their work

Consistent schedule 10 minutes per grade level Reward focus Reading time vs. homework time

Check the homework: -Look for sloppy mistakes -Check to see if it is completed -Help get the homework in the folder and the folder in the backpack -Check the planner and sign if necessary

Kids need encouragement -- Praise is often enough motivation Set goals together Experiences over things
