What is a Web-Browser?  Software application for retrieving, presenting and traversing information resources on the World Wide Web  An information resource is identified by a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) and may be a web page, image, video or other piece of content

What do Web- Browsers do?  Text and images on a web page can contain hyperlinks to other web pages at the same or different website  Web browsers communicated with web servers primarily using HTTP (hypertext transfer protocol) to fetch web pages  The file format for a web page is usually HTML (hyper- text markup language)  Most web browsers also support a variety of additional formats, such as JPEG, PNG, and GIF image formats

Web Browsers & the 21 st Century  We live in the age of globalization where we are interconnected throughout the world  The internet has to maintain its stability as we use multiple devices to browse the web (computers, smartphones, tablets)  As we continue to have access to more information, web browsers will be the foundation from which we will have access to information that we need to be successful in society
