Praying the Rosary

The Rosary is a sacramental. A sacramental is an action or object that helps us to pray.

We begin with the crucifix Hold the crucifix in your hands as you pray the Sign of the Cross and the Apostles’ Creed.

The first set of beads The single bead Pray the “Lord’s Prayer” The set of 3 beads Pray a “Hail Mary” on each, followed by “Glory Be to the Father” Another single bead Think about the first mystery and then pray the “Lord’s Prayer”

The first decade Pray a “Hail Mary” on each of the 10 beads. End the decade with “Glory Be to the Father.” Think about the next mystery on the single bead, then pray the “Lord’s Prayer”

We remember the Sorrowful Mysteries on Tuesdays and Fridays The Agony in the Garden The Scourging at the Pillar The Crowning with Thorns The Carrying of the Cross The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus

We remember the Glorious Mysteries on Wednesdays and Sundays The Resurrection The Ascension The Descent of the Holy Spirit Upon the Apostles The Assumption of Mary into Heaven The Coronation of Mary as Queen of Heaven

After the fifth decade We end by holding the medal and praying the Hail, Holy Queen. Then hold the crucifix and pray the sign of the cross.
