The Ten Commandments Exodus 20: 2-17

In the Old Testament (or Hebrew Scriptures), God gave a framework to people through Moses The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17). This is a statement of what not to do.

First Commandment Do not have other gods besides me Put others before self or materials Spend your time loving and taking care of others. Do not worship or love anything that is selfish and materialistic more than people.

Second Commandment Do not take the name of your Lord and God in vain Speak kindly & lovingly Take care with the words you use everyday as they have the power to hurt and to heal. Never blame others for your problems, instead, focus on being the best person you can be and having the humility to ask others for help when you need it.

Third Commandment Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day Pray everyday / live each day to the fullest Take time to reflect on your beliefs, to pray, and to listen to your conscience. Treat each day as a gift from God. Remember what is most important in life because we never know how much time we have left. Live your life without regrets and apologize when you should.

Fourth Commandment Honor your father and your mother Listen to and learn from the teachers in your life Respect all people, especially the teachers in your life – those who have learned from their mistakes and can help you through your own struggles. Their wisdom is a precious gift; seek their help when you need it and consider their advice when they give it.

The Fifth Commandment Do not kill Encourage the gifts and talents of all people Never do anything that would prevent someone from reaching their God-given potential, including your own. Your words, actions, and energy must be spent helping each person reach their true worth by focusing on encouraging others rather than judging them.

The Sixth Commandment Do not commit adultery Treat your body and others with respect in thoughts & actions Sexuality is a gift from God. Treat all people with equal dignity and respect. Do not belittle sex by referencing to it in a derogatory way or engaging in pornography

The Seventh Commandment Do not steal Be giving of your time and resources Always give more than you take and help others in need when you can.

The Eighth Commandment Do not bear false witness against your neighbor Speak well of others & self Do not gossip, or put down others. Instead, compliment others on the things they do well and encourage them to improve on the areas they can. Be true to yourself – don’t pretend to be something you’re not.

Anybody that has ever had a rumour or inaccurate information spread about them knows how painful and devastating that can be. Contributing to rumours or passing them along yourself always makes the situation worse. The ripple effects of this behaviour are often not obvious because once words are said they begin to spread through connected groups of people. I really encourage you not to buy into rumours but to shut them down when people are saying them around you. It is important to realize that when we speak we can never be sure of the feelings, connections to others and history of those who are hearing our words. Once something is tweeted, texted or posted it`s out there and is very hard to take back. When it comes to deciding what to do with information that is sent to you, it is best to delete. Don`t listen to or pass them on by text or verbally: Words have a lot of power to heal or to hurt. T.H.I.N.K. before pressing the send key: Is it True? Is it Hurtful? Is it Illegal? Is it Necessary? Is it Kind?

The Ninth Commandment Do not covet your neighbor's wife See the inner beauty of those around you Look on others with the eyes of God. See each person as having incredible gifts to offer the world. See past physical traits, and see the beauty of the person within.

The Tenth Commandment Do not covet your neighbor’s belongings Be thankful for your gifts and not jealous of others Attempt to be satisfied with your current standard of living and be thankful for what you have. Do not obsess over the possessions of others; that path leads to unhappiness
