eLearning Module Creation Demo Learn how 5

eLearning on a Shoestring: Creating Your Script Purpose of voiceover is to accompany / explain visuals Don’t keep screen static for too long Think visually Narration sequences should be short Think in terms of sound Storyboard visuals next to text Improvise during execution—tends to be more engaging than reading Use an outline, not a strict script Speak as you’d speak informally: simple language / short sentences Script for speaking Two simultaneous channels of text overloads the user Only emphasize key points with onscreen text Don’t duplicate script as on-screen text 6

Group Exercise: Write Your Script Choose a topic that multiple people at your table are well-versed in (if in doubt browse for ideas) Keep it brief: 1-3 minutes Use case study examples to make it real Find your voice: think confident, friendly, authoritative, not overly formal Use the simple script template that storyboards audio with corresponding action on screen

Group Exercise: Record Your Module Each group records their script Use group trainer’s computer Set the Paint and screen recorder canvas to 640x360 Do a few tests to get it right Review the outcome as a group Update the script based on the test recording Re-record your updated script

eLearning on a Shoestring: Tips for Recording Determine screen size dependent on delivery platform 4:3 ratio for iPod, web or iPad | 16:9 ratio for Youtube 640x360 Screen size Type text Handwriting use a drawing tablet Text Add a title and ending slide for a more finished appearance Use background music to unify the video Replace audio for translations or to update content Editing If you are combining or editing videos, leave ample silence/blank space before and after the place you plan to edit Splicing Video Practice before you record Do multiple versions to get the tempo correct Practice 9

The Execution – Software Selection Screen RecordingEditing Solutions Audio: Use an external MikeDrawing: Use a tablet

Group Presentation What was effective? Was the length appropriate? Was the scope appropriate? How could it be improved? 11

Summary What we’ve learned Brainstorm possible applications Translating existing content Add follow up quiz to determine if your users learned from your video Q&A
