Ancient Rome Review

Livy, Paganism, Nero, Mark Antony, Hadrian 1.) He was a famous Roman historian. 2.) This Roman Emperor built a large wall to keep invaders out of the northern borders of the Roman Empire. 3.) This polytheistic religion was followed by many Romans. 4.) This Roman leader fought Octavian and left his wife for an Egyptian Queen. 5.) He was considered one of Rome’s worst emperors and allegedly burned the city of Rome.

Brutus, Hannibal, Gracchus, Julius Caesar, Caligula 6.) This Roman emperor was labeled as being insane appointed his favorite horse as consul. 7.) This military general conquered Gaul, returned to Rome with his army, and was later killed by people in the Senate who thought he was too powerful. 8.) These brother reformed Rome and gave land and grain to poor farmers. 9.) He was Caesar’s close friend who turned against him and stabbed him. 10.) He was the Carthaginian general who invaded the Roman Empire during the 2 nd Punic War.

Odoacer, Stoicism, Ludus Magnus, Zama, Scipio 11.) The 2 nd Punic War ended with a Roman victory at this battle. 12.) This person conquered the last Roman emperor, marking an end to the empire. 13.) He defeated Hannibal in the 2 nd Punic War. 14.) This was the gladiator training school. 15.) This philosophy taught people to show concern for others and accept one’s duties.

Diocletian, Amulius, Ides of March, Cassius, Republic 16.) His reign was known as the “Great Persecution of the Christians.” 17.) He was the mastermind behind the assassination of Caesar. 18.) On this date, Caesar was assassinated. 19.) He was the evil king who attempted to kill Romulus and Remus. 20.) This is a government controlled by elected representatives of the people.

Circus Maximus, Romulus and Remus, Cleopatra, Octavian, Jesus 21.) This was the largest Roman arena and could seat 150,000 spectators. 22.) This Roman emperor tracked down Caesar’s assassins, killed them, and became the new leader. 23.) This religion founder preached a message of forgiveness and love of your neighbor and enemy. 24a.) These twin brothers founded Rome. 24b.) This Egyptian Queen allied herself with Octavian. She would later commit suicide.

Virgil, Theodosius, Pax Romana, Edict of Milan, Constantine, Paul 25.) This was a period of time where there were 200 years of Roman Peace. 26.) He was the first Christian emperor of the Roman Empire. 27.) He was a famous Roman poet. 28.) This legalized Christianity throughout the entire Roman Empire. 29.) He made Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire. 30.) This person converted to Christianity and is responsible for writing much of the New Testament.

AugustusNero Marcus Aurelius 31.) He was the last of the good emperors. 32.) He banned drinking, gambling, and idleness. 33.) Fearing a public death, he stabbed himself in the neck. 34.) He persecuted the Christians.

AugustusNero Marcus Aurelius 36.) He imposed a system of moral values. 37.) He wrote a book called “Meditations.” 38.) He killed his mother, wife, and many senators. 39.) He was the musician who played a mean lyre. 40.) He was blamed for burning 2/3 of Rome then building a gold palace.

Coliseum, Gladiators, Patricians, Plebeians 46.) These were the poor class of citizens. 47.) These were the upper class of citizens. 48.) This arena could hold 50,000 and had mock sea battles. 49.) These were former slaves trained for combat.

Attila, Twelve Tables, Edict of Milan 51.) These were the first set of Roman laws. 52.) This legalized Christianity in the Roman Empire. 53.) This Hun conqueror defeated Rome.
