NOW MORE THAN EVER… The poor have no reserves to allow them to weather the global economic crisis..

Video of world food prices FOOD PRICES ARE RISING

Strategic Development The video we saw suggests that we need to take action in every area, especially: Relief Work Political Action SMALL GROUP DISCUSSION: Share you experiences in these areas. How would you become involved?

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CAN INVOLVE SHORT TERM AND LONG TERM MISSIONARIES HELPING THE POOR TO SUPPLY THEIR OWN NEEDS THE LOVE OF CHRIST DEMONSTRATED THROUGH US EARNING THE TRUST OF THE COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITIES TO OFFER THE GIFT OF SALVATION

2.RECOGNIZE, ACCEPT, AND WORK WITH THE EFFECTS OF POVERTY BEFORE YOU BEGIN… 1. GET TO KNOW THE COMMUNITY

IGNORANCE NO ACCESS TO ACCURATE INFORMATION DISEASEPHYSICAL WEAKNESS, ACCEPT AND EXPECT LOSS OF CHILDREN, NO EXPECTATION OF A GOOD MEDICAL OUTCOME APATHYWHAT’S THE POINT? NOTHING WILL GET BETTER. DISHONESTYI WILL SAY OR DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET WHAT I NEED TODAY, EVEN IF IT BELONGS TO SOMEONE ELSE. DEPENDENCYIT’S NOT UP TO ME, IT’S UP TO THE GOVERNMENT OR A FOREIGN DONOR. SOME OF THE EFFECTS OF POVERTY

CLASS DISCUSSION How do we apply gospel teaching to affect and overcome these attitudes?

Video of Cambodian Development

SESSION 3 ANY QUESTIONS?

MATTHEW 5:11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. CHALLENGE VERSE

DO MISSIONARIES DESTROY CULTURE?

ABSOLUTELY

CHRISTIANITY CARRIED BY THE APOSTLES, IS THE BASIS FOR MOST EUROPEAN AND NORTH AMERICAN CIVILIZATION, HUMAN RIGHTS, GOVERNMENT AND LAW

MANY OF THE FAMOUS VICTORIAN MISSIONARIES WERE NOT, IN FACT MISSIONARIES. THEY WERE EXPLORERS AND WERE NOT SENSITIVE TO THE NEEDS OF THE PEOPLE THEY TRIED TO CONVERT ALONG THE WAY. THEY BELIEVED THAT EUROPEAN CHRISTIANITY AND CULTURE WAS GOD’S ONLY PLAN FOR EVERY NATION.

Missionaries do good things. They feed the poor, they help build houses and schools. They give away clothing and money to the needy. SOME RANDOM NEGATIVE COMMENTS

This makes them no different from the Red Cross. What makes them more insidious is their horrific indoctrination of the masses. They take advantage of the lack of education and poverty of the people they are helping. SOME RANDOM NEGATIVE COMMENTS….cntd

The missionaries’ primary objective is to use works in order to indoctrinate the people. They believe they have a right to fly to other countries and tell people how they should be living. SOME RANDOM NEGATIVE COMMENTS….cntd

What bothers me the most is that these people come back to their church and feel good about what they’re doing while the children that really needed help are still starving.

SOME RANDOM NEGATIVE COMMENTS….cntd Why must there be strings attached? Why can’t these people just travel to Africa and help the needy out of the goodness of their heart?

They are really just nosey, judgmental tourists !! SOME RANDOM NEGATIVE COMMENTS….cntd

CLASS DISCUSSION Do you find any truth in this? Does it matter what other people think If so, how could you change their impression ?
