Apprenticeships can be started at any time throughout the year, as long as you have finished full-time education (first Monday in July) Start speaking to providers and employers early, don’t leave it until the end of the year Jobs are advertised from March onwards for September starts

Key messages for students? Register on Apprenticeship Vacancies Look at the wide range of Apprenticeships available Concentrate on the application form (4000 characters to describe strengths) There is huge competition for jobs (40 – 80 applications per vacancy)

KEITS Ltd

Young Apprenticeship Was given this opportunity in Secondary School to complete a Young Apprenticeship in Customer Service (yr 10 and yr 11) 50 days (1 day per week at The Body Shop) Received a Level 1 and 2 NVQ in Customer Service, Key Skills, Manual Handling Certificate and a 1 st Aid Certificate From this I also received a Saturday job

Advice about progression School wanted me to do A Levels and go to University …but I didn’t like the style of learning Spoke to Connexions Advisor, Form Tutor, College open evenings, Head of Year 11, Parents Only one subject I wanted to study at A Level (IT) but it got dropped because of lack of interest Preferred to be out and about with lots of variety Earning a salary was an incentive

Apprenticeship Vacancy Website My Connexions Advisor told me about the website and what kind of vacancies could be on it I applied for a few vacancies, one being at KEITS. I went for an interview and I got the job at KEITS and I started there in November of my colleagues also applied through the Apprenticeship Vacancy website and were successful

Apprenticeship I have completed my Apprenticeship in Business Administration (Level 2) I’ve been given more responsibilities I deal with the Short Courses that KEITS run I’m a member of the Business Development Team Assist the South East Apprenticeship Company

My Qualifications A* - IT A – Catering C – Maths B – English C – English Literature C – French B – Business Studies C – Science C – Statistics On the Apprenticeship Emergency First Aid at Work (1 Day HSE Approved) Level 2 NVQ in Business Administration In my Young Apprenticeship: EDI Level 1 & 2 NVQ Customer Service EDI Level 2 Certificate in Retail Operations Level 2 Key Skills Working With Others Level 2 Key Skills Communication Edexcel Level 2 BTEC Certificate Employability Skills Training Manual Handling Course

What I'm doing now I’ve nearly completed my Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration (Level 3) Had 3 pay rises since starting L2 I’m attending events like these and talking to people like you I assist my colleagues in sign ups I am now mentoring other Apprentices that work alongside me Hoping to start L4 Higher Apprenticeship in Business and then go onto L5 (degree equiv) All by the time I’m just turning 20!

My advice to others Don’t dismiss Apprenticeships as only being for drop outs They are a good way to get started Make sure you help your students to really explore their options and choose the right path for them Be honest and encouraging Getting a job is something to be proud of

Thank you Any questions?
