Cervical Cancer Abnormal tissue found in the cervix This is commonly caused by HPV a sexually transmitted disease; which is the most widespread STD among women. When cervical cancer is found early it is easier to treat and the survival rate is much higher.

Cervical Cancer There are three tests when someone is suspected to have cervical cancer. A pap test is done first, if it is abnormal a HPV screening is done, if that tests positive a coloscopy is done to remove abnormal cells. There was a significant decrease in cervical cancer when the pap test was initiated.

Gynecologist Visit Exams that every women should have yearly after the age 18 or earlier if she becomes sexually active before that age. The exam should be confidential  Medical history  Family history of disease  Sexual History  Medications  Questions about activities you participate in.

Gynecologist Visit Relax  Ask for an explanation for what’s going on.  Ask for a mirror to see A manual breast exam is done and a pap smear. This is where the doctor checks to see if everything is ok in your reproductive area. No insurance? Call Planned Parenthood or a local health clinic. ( Low cost!)

Pap Smear Tips Make sure that you do not schedule a pap smear during your menstrual cycle. This will probably result in your doctor having to reschedule your appointment. Relax during the examination, if your muscles become tense while they insert the speculum it may result in pain.

Urinary Tract Infections Caused when bacteria gets into the urinary tract. 85% of urinary tract infections are caused by strains of ecoli bacteria. These are much more common in women than men because women have a much shorter urethra.
