Dr. Ross Todd's Study (double click on hyperlink or right click & choose “Open Hyperlink” to view) All of these studies, including the Delaware Governor’s Task Force study done by Dr. Ross Todd in 2006, confirm that schools with: increase student achievement !

They understand that librarians are an asset to our schools, increasing the value of the educational program. Standard 12 of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (2009)

How do strong library programs impact student achievement? According to the Todd study, students in Delaware say the school librarian helps them by:  Engaging them in specific learning tasks related to conducting quality research.  Keeping them connected to a creative and satisfying world of ideas through literature.  Providing a comfortable, safe environment for independent learning.  Meeting their individual and specific needs.

According to the Delaware study, 99.82% of faculty members surveyed perceived that the school library has helped their students in a variety of ways, including:  Being an active instructional partner  Teaching information literacy skills  Enhancing student’s reading skills  Providing a welcoming environment  Responding to student’s individual needs

increasing reading achievement raising test scores preparing for higher education becoming discriminating users in an information rich world Consider the following ways a strong school library program with a full-time certified librarian could impact a student:
