Effects of Speed and Idle Engine- The ideal speed for the average truck is MPH. The power required to increase speed increases by 73% more horsepower at 60 MPH, and by 159% more horsepower at 70 MPH. Fuel Cost- Each mile per hour above 50 MPH increases fuel consumption by 1 ½ percent. A truck, which averages 8 MPG at 50 MPH, will average 6.8 MPG at 60 MPH. Tires- Heat is the #1 problem with tires. Sustained speeds raise tire temperatures above the critical level causing strength and wear properties to deteriorate rapidly. The vehicle can then be routed by shortest route or by quickest route. Geofencing - A geofence is a geographic region on a map that generates an event when a vehicle enters or exits the region and sends an alert.
