Agenda  Managing Media Assets  Realising Media Asset Value  Mass-Digitisation  The Challenges  The Solution  Demo  Questions

What is an Asset? Definition of an Asset:  You know you own it  You know how/where to find it  It has value:  Historical value  It generates $$$ directly/indirectly Form of a Media Asset:  Video  Audio  Still pictures  Text data

The Big Picture Browsing/ Webcasting Cataloguing & Ingestion Database Content Distribution/ AnyCast Content Creation Ingestion Transmission Fulfillment Storage Editing Authoring Meta- data logging External Network Web Server Image scanner/ printing Media Asset Management

Managing Media Assets  What content do you have?  Where is it?  What format is it in?  What condition is it in?  Who holds rights on it?

Consistent Management of All Asset Formats is the Key…  An organization’s assets are highly valuable – whether they are physical analogue material, digitised electronic materials, or future technologies/formats that go beyond the digital realm.  Most collections will contain both analogue and digital material for many years to come.  Need to maintain consistent intellectual information about each asset, regardless of its physical manifestation.

Realising Media Asset Value Re-using, re-purposing and re-selling your content effectively and efficiently implies:  All assets catalogued in a single system (or one that provides a single-system view)  Analogue assets physically managed and conversion to digital formats automated  Digital assets available for on-line viewing and editing

Mass-Digitisation Challenges  Multiple analogue formats  Reuse of existing metadata  Metadata stored in database vs. metadata stored directly in digital file  Loss of analogue material during digitisation process  Automation of the whole process whether ad hoc or batch

Mass-Digitisation Solution  All assets catalogued in a single system (or at least a single-system view available)  Analogue assets physically managed  Conversion to digital formats automated  Existing metadata reused  Ad hoc and batch capability
