What do you know about Whole Numbers ??  The set of whole numbers includes the counting numbers and 0. The whole numbers are 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,...  The term whole numbers does not have a consistent definition. The term 'whole numbers' means a set of collection of numbers including all integers.  For example : the nonnegative integers (0, 1, 2, 3,...) the positive integers (1, 2, 3,...) all integers (..., -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3,...).

 The position, or place, of a digit in a number written in standard form determines the actual value the digit represents.  Table below shows the place value for various positions:  Example: The number has a 7 in the hundred thousands place, a 2 in the ten thousands place, a 1 in the thousands place, a 4 in the tens place, and a 0 in both the hundreds and ones place.

 Expanded Form is a way to break up a number to show how much each digit in the number represents. In other words, expanded form is the method of pulling a number apart and expressing it as a sum of the values of each digit.  The best way to identify the expanded form of a number is to simply write the number in words  There are two types of expanded form : 1) Expanded form of whole numbers 2 ) Expanded form of decimal numbers

Expanded form of whole numbers  In order to understand expanded form better, one needs to be good at place value.  Consider the number 543. Arrange the digits in a place value chart as shown below.  From the chart above, we see that: the value of 5 is 5 × 100 = 500 the value of 4 is 4 × 10 = 40 the value of 3 is 3 × 1=3 Therefore, the expanded form of the number 543 is
