CHRISTIAN CENTER ELEMENTARY Computers

Computer Lab Update  Updates to our computer lab will be happening mid-February (during President’s Day Break).  Upgraded Dell Computers  Wireless Capabilities  New Multi-Switch Server  Upgraded Microsoft Software – Uniform on all machines.  Current systems in computer lab will be moving out into the classrooms.

Mrs. Carmen Toole  Teaches all computer classes for Kindergarten through Fifth grade.  4 th Year at CCE (3 rd Year teaching Computers)  2001 Graduate of Dakota State University  Elementary Education and Special Education with a Computer Education Endorsement  Married for almost 6 years with no children.

Kindergarten  Curriculum Activities  Basic use and knowledge of computer parts.  Designing Pictures in Drawing Program – Kid Pix Alphabet Book – students design pages for all letters of the alphabet throughout the course of the year. At the end of the year, a book of all their work is printed out and sent home.  Educational Software Arthur Kindergarten Reader Rabbit Reading, Thinking, and Math.

Project Examples

First Grade  Curriculum Activities  Basic use and knowledge of computer parts.  Design Activities where students make pictures in Kid Pix program for a purpose. Ex: Designing a Shoe, Picking out items that begin with a certain letter,  Creating Stories in a Storybook program called Storybook Weaver Deluxe Favorite Memory, Seasons, Bible story, etc.  Using Internet and Drawing program together to present a project – Neighborhood Poster with a map of the part of town they live in along with pictures of their house and things near where they live.

First Grade - Continued  Educational Software or Websites – use a variety of different programs to learn reading, writing, math and thinking skills.  Keyboarding – Learning where the keys are on the computer as well as typing using the Home Row.  Using Internet to hunt for answers – Scavenger Hunts where students look for answers to specific questions – Nursery Rhymes, Fun with Shapes, and Owning a Dog.  Beginning usage of Microsoft Software Spelling Lists in Word, Graphing Skittles in Excel, Cards in Publisher, etc.

Second Grade  Curriculum Activities  Determining input/output devices remembering Computer Parts.  Designing for a specified purpose using Kid Pix Realistic/Abstract pictures, City Skyline, Math worksheet using pictures for a friend to solve, Spring Flowers, and Life Cycle of a Butterfly.  Keyboarding – Begin learning basic typing skills using a typing program.  Writing detailed stories with pictures and sentences in Storybook Weaver Deluxe. Pioneer Adventure Story, First Snow, Bible Story.  Copying and illustrating a poem

Second Grade – Continued  Using Internet to hunt for answers – Scavenger Hunts where students look for answers to specific questions – Christopher Columbus, Forest Animals,.  Research using the Internet – Animal Research Project  Educational Software and Websites  Beginning usage of Microsoft Software Charting Surveys in Excel, Writing Psalms in Word, Cards in Publisher, etc.  Coordinate activities with classroom learning – Food Pyramid Game – health information
