Team: Juan Pablo Pods System:Modular Aircraft Exterior Pods Strategic Values/Objectives Inexpensive Low Certification Costs Quick Reaction Capable Universal Interfaces Uses New-to-Market Technologies Descriptive Statement The MAEP is a common design allowing for a large variety of units to be installed in a standard rack. The standard rack allows for the interchangeability of a large numbers of sensors, units, and antennas. The common pod design creates a low cost, fast turnaround FAA Certified design, creating a true Quick Reaction Capability effort. Team Members Cody Clanton Brian Claussen Josh Cory Chris Leroux

RS Analysis for Modular Aircraft Exterior Pods Correction Variation Reconfigu- ration Expansion (and Contraction of Capacity) Migration Improvement Modification (Add/Sub Capability) Creation (and Elimination) Proactive Reactive Change Domain Response Issues What types of resource relationship configurations will need changed during operation? Modifications to the configuration plan What performance characteristics will the system be expected to improve during operational life cycle? Maximum Weight Maximum Electrical Power What must the system be creating or eliminating in the course of its operational activity? The plan for what components will be needed The creation of a configuration plan for the pod What major events coming down the road will require a change in the system infrastructure? New Materials requiring new manufacturing tools Different Radome Shape What modifications in resources-employed might need made as the system is used? Rack Layout LRU Advancements What can go wrong that will need an automatic systemic detection and response? Failed FAA Certification Inaccurate configuration plan What process variables will range across what values and need accommodation? Environmental Variations What are “quantity-based” elastic-capacity needs on resources/output/activity/other? Different Sized Compartments Variety of electrical power requirements LRU Heating/Cooling demands

Reality Factors Organizational Behavior – Survival rules rule, nobody's in absolute control... Marketing overselling capabilities Drive to reduce NRE to maximize profits Shortsightedness caused by the need to react quickly. Human (Including Customer) Behavior – Human error, whimsy, expediency, arrogance... Inattention during manufacture and installation Operating outside standard parameters (in hostile environments) Altering maintenance procedures to save time Technology Pace – Accelerating technology and security-vulnerability introductions, sparse testing... COTS Technology advancements (Pushing the operating limits of the pods) GFE requirements driving unexpected configurations System Complexity – Incomprehensible, highly networked, unintended consequences, emergence... Non-intuitive installation and repair procedures Composite material composition and fabrication procedures Globalization – Partners with different ethics, values, infrastructures, cultural assumptions... Different outlooks on acceptable technology use (spying versus justified surveillance) Agile Customers/Competitors/Adversaries – Distributed, collaborative, self organizing, proactive, impatient, innovative... Competitors capable of fully in-house operations Reliant on OEM A/C data Customer desires versus STC Capabilities (One radome design per STC) Partially-Agile Enterprise Faddish Practices – Outsourcing, web services, transparency, COTS policies/affects... Outsourcing composites radome manufacturing and complex machine practices Using COTS (Reliant on vendor priorities) System: Modular Aircraft Exterior Pods
