Masaccio- The Madonna and Child with Saint Anne More Masaccio Paintings Image acquired at: The Madonna and Child with Saint Anne was made by Masaccio and Masolino in This work was simple yet extraordinary. The painting follows a upward direction, creating a pyramid shape. The painting is bright due to the use of a dense color paste which absorbs the light and heightens the tones. All Masaccio’s work were painting’s due to the fact that he was a Middle Italian Renaissance artist. Most Middle Italian Renaissance artists painted paintings.

Masaccio- St Jerome and St John the Baptist Return To Lobby Image acquired at: In 1478 Masaccio left Florence for Rome to work on the polyptych in Santa Maria Maggiore, interrupting the work on the Brancaccio Chapel, but he only had time to begin the left hand side with the panel of St Jerome and St John the Baptist before he died at age 27. Because Masaccio died before he finished the painting Masolino had to finish it alone. Because Masaccio was a Middle Italian Renaissance Artists all of his work were paintings.

Leonardo de Vinci – The Last Supper MORE LEONARDO DE VINCI PAINTINGS Image acquired at: Leonardo's painting of the Last Supper was made symmetrically according to the laws of central perspective, with Jesus in the center. He is physically isolated from the other people and his hands are pointing to the bread and wine, introducing the Eucharist the central event. The other figures are reacting directly to Jesus, and some of them are talking with each other. This Painting is the most famous last supper painting. Leonardo De Vinci like other High Italian Renaissance artists began to use oil paint.

Leonardo de Vinci- Mona Lisa Return to Lobby Image acquired at: This picture is a portrait of Mona Lisa, who was born in Florence in 1479 and in 1945 married Marquees del Giaconda. From the beginning this painting was greatly respected, and it was considered the typical Renaissance portrait. It became even more famous in 1911, when it was stolen from the Salle Carrée on August 21 st, 1911 by Vicenzo Perrugia, an Italian workman. In 1913 it was found in Florence. Leonardo worked on it for four years. The smile of Mona stands for the movement of life, and the mystery of the soul. The mountains, above the plain and the river, symbolizes the universe. Leonardo starting painting portraits like other High Italian Renaissance artists during this time.

Albrecht Dürer- Christ As The Man Of Sorrows MORE ALBRECHT DURER PAINTINGS Image acquired at: This painting depicts Jesus after he has been beaten by the soldiers, just before he was crucified. Jesus was bleeding from his wounds and was holding the instrument used to beat him. He was wearing the crown of thrones and was leaning his head on his hand to show a gesture of grief. His other hand rests on a ledge, a pose which Durer often used to add a sense of depth to the portrait.

Albrecht Dürer- House By A Pond Return to Lobby Image acquired at: Dürer painted this water color soon after he returned from Venice, probably in The site has been identified as a pond which was connected by a small canal to the River Pegnitz, near St John's Church on the outskirts of Nuremburg. The painting is based around the circular form of the pond, a shape similar to the painted boat in the front. Most northern renaissance artists began to paint water color paintings. This work reflects this time period because water color paintings were often painted.
