The AAF protects and promotes advertising at all levels of government through grassroots activities. Our nationwide network monitors advertising-related legislation on local, state and federal levels. We put our members face-to-face with leading lawmakers. We encourage industry self-regulation as a preemptor to government intervention, when appropriate. Government Relations
Put together a committee comprised of companies that have a large government relations group. Lobbyists and communications specialists are examples. The issues facing the advertising industry in Congress, the regulatory agencies and states continue to proliferate. For advertising to continue to play a prominent role in the economy (and our culture), we must be both knowledgeable and prepared to educate decision makers about the implications of the issues they address. The appropriate time to meet with your public officials is BEFORE not AFTER you need them. If you are located in a capital city, invite key legislators and local officials to your meetings as guest speakers. Host a legislative appreciation day, or a similar event, to encourage networking with these individuals. Present a legislator or public official of the year award at the beginning of your Addy event.
