Animals There are 21 species of penguins. Not all of them live in Antartica. Some of the penguins that live in Antartica are the Emporer penguins, The Rockhopper, the Chinstrap, The king and the Adelie penguin and Macroni penguin. There also are leopard seals, wedddell seals, Ross seals. There are whales and killer whales, Blue Whale and humpback whale. All of the Antartic animals have adapted to life in extremely cold conditions. They have an insulating layer of fat to protect them from the cold.

People There are hundreds of scientists that work at different research centers. The scientists also study humans in Antarctica, doing research on how the human body adapts to cold and how the human mind and heart react to extreme isolation. There are no native people in Antarctica. Emilio Marcos Palma was the first baby born in Antarctica in The first human there was Henryk Bull from Norway in And the first woman was Catherine Mikkelson in Captain James Cook and his crew was the first person to cross Antarctica.
