Training of forensic psychiatrists The situation in Iceland

Training of forensic psychiatrists Formal training of forensic psychiatrists is none existent but occasionally courses have been held, one recently on the HCR-20 instrument. Psychiatric investigations are conducted by general psychiatrist, 5 of our 70 Icelandic psychiatrists do most of them. No written rules or act exist concerning how.

Training of forensic psychiatrists We have three Icelandic forensic psychiatrist One educated in UK but has never worked in this field in Iceland. One now working privat as general psychiatrist One is active but working/in Norway We have one forensic psychologist and he is actually head of our psychological department at the University Hospital, educated from UK Has been very activy in research in this field with Gísli Guðjónsson prof in London. One educated forensic nurse, educated from Australia

Training of forensic psychiatrists As our small department finally became part of the department of Psychiatry at the University Hospial Landspitali in 2009, things will hopefully change This year all young doctors training in psychiatry attended one day program at our clinic* Important for us to teach but also for young junior doctors to learn about forensic psychiatry then hopefully some will become interested and study abroad Our education system and enables us to follow up new research and go to those courses abroad we want to attend Important to be part of research teams internationally but also meet regularly clincial thinking, experienced forensic psychiatrist

Training of forensic psychiatrists Recently a case showed pitfalls in our system Psychiatric examination I diagnosed an individal with multiple personality and thus unacountable Psychiatric examination II diagnosed the same individual with delusional disorder, type erotomani and thus unacountable Together both psychiatric examinations interviewed the individual 5 times !
