OSHA Subpart CC-Cranes and Derricks in Construction Assembly/Disassembly requirements. Steve Owens, Crane and Rigging/Heavy Equipment Specialist

Selection of manufacturer or employer procedures. While assembling or disassembling equipment compliance must be maintained with all applicable manufacturer or employer procedures. Employer procedures must be developed by a qualified person and meet the requirements in When synthetic slings are used the sling manufacturers instructions must be followed.

Assembly/Disassembly employer procedures-general requirements Must be developed by a competent person Must position employees involved in the work so as to minimize their exposure to potential hazards. Must provide adequate support and stability for the equipment and all of its parts. Must prevent unintended movement or collapse of any part of the equipment.

Inspections Post assembly inspection must verify that the equipment is configured correctly and functioning properly prior to operation.
