About the Idea A Program Created to Encourage the Installation of Residential Fire Sprinklers –Modeled after the Super Good Cents Program which encouraged energy efficiency: Homes were certified as energy efficient –Contractors/Realtors advertised this as a plus for marketing their homes –Contractors were behind it –The public became educated and wanted this

About the Program A Fire Department Recognized Life Saver Residence Would Have the Following Features: –A residential fire sprinkler system –Hardwired and interconnected smoke alarms (Current Oregon Residential Specialty Code Requirements)

The Homeowner Packet Contents: Cover letter Certificate Window Sticker HFSC Now That You’re Living with Sprinklers Packet

Cover Letter Congratulations! Your residence is equipped with both home fire sprinklers and smoke alarms. These systems combined give you a high level of life safety fire protection inside your home. A report from the National Institute of Technology comparing homes with and without fire sprinkler systems concluded the following: Houses equipped with smoke alarms and a fire sprinkler system experienced 100 % fewer civilian fatalities, 57 % fewer civilian injuries, and 32 % less direct property losses and indirect costs resulting from fire than houses equipped only with smoke alarms. Enclosed is a certificate from Medford Fire-Rescue recognizing the life-safety features built into your home. Also enclosed is a Living with Sprinklers kit from the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition which includes home fire sprinkler system information. There is very little maintenance required for home fire sprinkler systems and this kit will explain what you need to do to ensure your system is operational. We hope you never have to experience a home fire, but with these features built into your home you can have greater degree of assurance that your family will survive such an event.
