Reading and Writing Lessons

Reading Lesson 2 I can meet with my book clubs and discuss the way we will run our groups.

Timed Reading I will give you 5 minutes to read. Take your time, don’t rush. After 5 minutes, we will stop and calculate how many pages per minute we read. Pages/minutes

Talk Map Set up your talk map by tracing squares on folder. Put your name on each square. Cut out the question strips and place in envelope.

Writing Lesson 2 I can travel to stations and investigate life in my time in history.

1234 BooksIpadsPicturesLifestyle BooksIpadsPictures LifestyleBooksIpads PicturesLifestyleBooks You will have 7 minutes at each station. Please be sure to have your writing notebook and pencil so you can take notes at each station.

Reading Lesson 3 I will continue to read in my book clubs and jot down ideas that I have as I read. I will discuss my ideas with my book club and listen to their ideas too. Discuss some positive behaviors you can show in book club meetings. What are some questions you can ask to keep the conversation going? Do you like bookclubs, why or why not?

Keeping Track of the Important Information Who is in the story? Where is the story taking place? When is the story taking place? (this is very important in historical fiction.) What is happening so far?

Book Club Read with the essential questions in mind. You will have 20 minutes to read and 15 minutes to discuss. Jot your ideas and place them on your talk maps.

Writing Lesson 3 I will continue to research my time period and create a timeline of my events. Where do you think your story will take place? Tell about your character. Give some examples of some problems that your character will overcome.

Writing Workshop We will use ipads and laptops to visit websites that will give us more information on our time period. Make sure you take notes, draw sketches and write down interesting facts that will help you write the story.
