On August 6, 1945 the U.S dropped the “Little Boy” on Hiroshima and on August 9 dropped the “Fat Man.” First Soviet bomb was detonated on August 29, USSR tested the H-Bomb on August 12, U.S launched their first satellite into space on January 31, The Soviet Union successfully launched Sputnik I on October 4, The R-7, was successfully tested in August 1957 became the world's first ICBM. “Trinity Test” Trinity was the first test of technology for an atomic weapon. It was conducted on July 16, 1945, near Alamogordo, New Mexico. The weapon's codename was "The Gadget". The detonation was equivalent to the explosion of 20 kilotons of TNT and is considered the beginning of the Atomic Age. Bombing Japan President Harry S. Truman ordered the U.S. dropping of the nuclear weapon "Little Boy" on the city of Hiroshima on Monday, August 6, 1945, followed by the detonation of "Fat Man" over Nagasaki on August 9. These are the only attacks with nuclear weapons in the history of warfare. 6 days after the detonation over Nagasaki, Japan announced its surrender to the Allied Powers, signing the Instrument of Surrender on September 2, officially ending the World War II.

The Soviet Union was working furiously to build their own atomic weapons. Americans predicted the USSR would not have nuclear weapons until the mid-1950’s. Soviet Union shocked the entire world when the first Soviet bomb was detonated on August 29, It’s code name was “First Lightning” It was a copy of United State’s “Fat Man.” Scientific research for “First Lightning” was directed by nuclear physicist, Igor Kurchatov.

United States On November 1, 1952 the US explodes the H-Bomb on the Marshall Islands in the Pacific Ocean. Soviet Union Detonated its first hydrogen bomb at the Semipalatinsk test site in Kazakhstan. It’s explosive power is comparable to 400 kilotons of TNT, and is 26 times more powerful than the “Little Boy” atomic bomb.
