VISION & ASPIRATIONS We strive to make the new East Asia Library the “centerpiece” of Stanford’s East Asian studies community We expect the new East Asia Library to become a research, teaching, and cultural hub for the East Asian studies community Library space will be renovated and redesigned to maximize our ability to provide world-class collections and services Library designed to achieve a balance between books on site and study/public space
MILESTONES October 2011: Board of Trustees approved the proposal to move EAL to a new location – the vacated Jackson Business School Library Currently through Jan. 2013: Design, budgeting and getting construction approval January 2013: Renovation will begin Fall 2014: Occupants of Meyer Library, including the East Asia Library and Academic Computing, will move into their new location, now known as SULAIR-North Sometime in FY2014: Meyer Library will come down
KEY WORDS: ACCESSIBILITY Main entrance easily accessible to users, with highly visible signage On site collection has 300,000 volumes, equivalent to the collection now in Meyer mezzanine and Meyer 4 th Floor Collection stacks located across 3 floors: Lower level: Compact shelves, special collection stacks, folios Main/entrance level: current periodicals/newspapers, reference, general collection in high use Upper level: general collection in high use
