Where does your disaster typically happen? My disaster typically happens in the Ring of Fire. The Ring of Fire is located in The Pacific Ocean. This is a map of the Ring of Fire and other fault lines.

How often does your disaster happen? My disaster happens on average 40 times a decade. Here is a bar graph showing how many times a volcano has erupted in one decade.

What features of the Earth are directly involved with your disaster? Rock is directly involved with volcanoes because a composite volcano explodes a tiny bit of lava but a lot of rock and ash. Lava is directly involved with a volcano because when a shield volcano erupts lava pours out of the volcano. The Ring of Fire is directly involved because it is a fault line. Ash is directly involved because that is the first thing you see.

Describe a typical occurrence of your event. What usually happens? Ash springs out of the volcano. Hot rock is flying around. Lava is moving slowly on the ground. Scientists who are there try to get away. There is evacuation so less people die.

What are the extreme conditions that can happen with your disaster? Most extreme conditions for a volcano is a super volcano. A super volcano is a 7 volcano. A super volcano can spread ash for about 100 kilometers. Stay away from a super volcano if you know it is a super volcano.

What type of measurement scale is used to classify your event? The scale that is used is called Volcanic Explosively Index. The scale goes from 0 to 7. 0 is the weakest and a 7 is the strongest. Here is a picture of the scale.

Describe any after effects of your disaster? For volcanoes there are lava flows, fire hazards, search and rescue, and ash cleanup. People have to worry about after shocks and hot rock.

Lava is hot and when is dry becomes rock Rock is cooled lava Magma is lava but in the mantle Volcano is a disaster that explodes rock and lava Shield is a type of volcano that explodes mostly lava Composite is a type of volcano that explodes mostly rock Magma Chamber is a large underground pool of liquid rock found beneath Earth’s surface
