FT Integration Raffaella De Vita INFN – Genova Jefferson Lab 10/15/2013

Outline Cable and services Space and requirements Proposed Routing Space allocation for electronics and ancillary systems FT Review, 12/11/2012FT Integration2

Cable and Services Most cables and services for the FT operation have to be routed outside the FT region towards appropriate racks/cabinets Only exception is the FT-Trck FEU that have to be within 0.8 m from the detector FT-Cal: –Signal cables going to electronic racks –HV and LV cables going to power supply racks –Slow controls (thermal sensor) going to controller –Cooling fluid pipes going to the chiller and gas lines going to the gas panel FT-Hodo: –Fibers going to the preamplifier crate FT-Trck: –Optical fiber connecting the FEU to the BEU located in electronic racks –HV and LV signals going to power supply racks –Slow controls (USB) –Compressed air pipes for cooling FT Review, 12/11/2012FT Integration3

Proposed Routing FT Review, 12/11/2012FT Integration5 HV, LV and Slow Controls Hodoscope Fiber Calorimeter and Tracker Signals Calorimeter and Tracker Gas and Cooling

Proposed Routing Critical point for the cable routing is the corner between the DC and HTCC Information of exact clearance is needed to finalize cable and service distribution among exit paths FT Review, 12/11/2012FT Integration6

Cable Rails Cables and services will be routed using custom rails –FT rails will be positioned on top of the DC cable rails –Rails maybe installed before the FT but connection of cables and services will be done after completion of the FT installation and alignment –Rails width will be compatible with the DC movement from operation to maintenance configuration –Rails will be removable to allow for full dismounting of FT in case of detector maintenance –Precise information on clearance between the DC electronic boards and possible attachment points are needed to finalize the rail design FT Review, 12/11/2012FT Integration7

Electronic Location Location of FT electronic racks and other ancillary system depends on cable and service routing Tracker electronics and services should be close to twin systems used for central detector Items: –FT-Cal fADCs (2 crates) –FT-Trck BEU (1 crate) –FT-Hodo Preamp. crate and fADCs (1 crate) –HV boards for calorimeter (3), hodoscope (2) and tracker (1) –FT-Cal chiller and gas-panel –FT-Trck air compressor and gas panel (same as Central Micromegas Tracker) FT Review, 12/11/2012FT Integration8

FT-Cal FEE and HV location FT Review, 12/11/2012FT Integration9 fADC crates could be located on the south- side of the space frame HV and LV could be located on the subway or on the north side of the space frame Chiller and gas panel could be placed on the ground floor fADC crates HV and LV crates

FT-Hodo FEE location FT Review, 12/11/2012FT Integration10 Preamplifier crate will be attached to the torus legs Output cables will be routed up toward the south side of the space frame HV and LV boards will be located in the same crates used for the calorimeter fADC crates HV and LV crates Preamp crate

FT-Trck rack location FT Review, 12/11/2012FT Integration11 BEU crate could be located on the south side of the space frame HV and LV boards will be located in the same crates used for the calorimeter and hodoscope Gas and air for cooling will be provided by the same panel and compressor used by the Central Micromegas Tracker HV and LV crates BEU crates

Summary Cable and services necessary for the operation of the FT will be routed to the appropriate racks and auxiliary system along the torus coils Given the total cross section of cables and services, 4 exit paths are estimated to be necessary (signals, HV+LV+SC, gas+cooling, FT- Hodo fibers) Removable custom rails will be designed to host cables and services, compatibly with the available clearance and the DC standard operation/maintenance A proposal for the location of electronic racks and auxiliary system is presented; final choice will need more precise estimate of route length for signal cables Precise information on available clearance between the DC electronic boards and DC-HTCC corner are needed to finalize the routing and the design of the custom rails FT Review, 12/11/2012FT Integration12
