About AICM AICM was formed in 1988, since then, AICM has continued to evolve into an industrial organization which represents our members in promoting and bringing forward best international practices in the chemical industry to the stakeholders in China. AICM represent nearly 40 major chemical companies in China, whose members’ business covers manufacture, transportation, distribution and disposal of chemicals. 5 of AICM members ranked World Top 10 Enterprises and 28 members stood among World Top 50 Chemical Enterprises. 31 members signed Responsible Care Global Charter initiated by ICCA.

AICM Vision To contribute to the development of a harmonious society and the sustainable growth of China’s chemical industry, as the representation of the leading international chemical players in China, AICM commits to: Promote Responsible Care among all the stakeholders; Advocate cost-effective, science- and risk-based policies to the policy makers; Build up the contributive role of the chemical industry to the economy.

 In August 2006, AICM Suggestions on GHS Implementation in China  Acceptance of Existing Data  Self Classification  Provide reasonable transition period for substances & mixtures  In March 2008, AICM Position Paper on “Regulation of Hazardous Chemical Safety Management” (Decree No. 344 of the State Council)  GHS principle has been adopted.  A Hazardous Chemical Inventory adopting GHS classification will be developed.  In 2008 and 2009, AICM has provided constructive suggestions on China national standards regarding GHS, most of which have been adopted.  GB General rules for preparation of precautionary label for chemicals.  GB General rules for classification and hazard communication of chemicals”  GB/T Safety data sheet for chemical products content and order of sections AICM Contributions to GHS Implementation in China

AICM Suggestions  More harmonization in the regulations and standards in China.  China should provide a reasonable transition period for mixtures.  Chinese standards on chemical classification should be updated timely to be harmonized with UN GHS.  Different chemical lists have been developed by different countries in which many chemicals are classified differently due to the different data sources, it is strongly suggested that UN should develop a harmonized chemical classification list.  AICM is willing to make more contributions to the GHS implementation not only in China but also worldwide.
