Serif Fonts Serif Fonts are good for columns or large blocks of text because the flicks make the fonts easier to read than Sans Serif Fonts. A few examples of Serif Fonts are: Bookman old style, Garamond and Times New Roman.

Sans Serif Fonts Sans is French for without. Sans Serif Fonts are similar to Serif Fonts but don’t have the flicks that Serif Fonts have. Sans Serif fonts are commonly used for marketing because they create a impact but can also be used for creating an elegant look. A few examples of Sans Serif Fonts are: Basic Sans Light SF, Calibri and Arial.

Other Fonts Display or Slab Fonts Display or Slab Fonts are eye catching and draw people in and for that reason they are used for advertising. They Serif but sometimes Serif are normally Sans fonts. Examples of these are: Super Black SF and Folio Xbd BT. Script Fonts Script fonts are used to represent handwriting. These types of fonts suggests moods from formal and flowery to fun and youthful. Examples of these are: Blackadder ITC, Freestyle Script and Lucida Handwriting.

Novelty or Fun Fonts Novelty or Fun fonts are used to create a fun mood, especially for a younger audience. They are used to there best effect when humour is a feature of the layout. Examples of these are: Fluffy Snacks BTN, Bolts SF and Darlin BTN.

What Font to use? Choosing the font to use can sometimes be quite tricky, so if you know who your target audience is then try to use a font that would appeal to them. However trial and error is a good way of finding fonts to use. Don’t use too many different fonts in one layout, three max.
