“The informal sector has gained prominence in developing countries during the past two decades, mainly as a result of the formal sector’s inability to absorb growing populations and an increasing number of individuals hoping to secure an income through self-employment in the informal sector.” – (Anele Horn 2011) 2

BACKGROUND Studied past street trading management experience in the inner city from 1940 until 2014 and noted the Success – Failures – Challenges. Key strategic planning documents of City of Johannesburg (CoJ) were also studied. Spoke to all stakeholders directly and indirectly. Stakeholders include: a)Traders b) CoJ c) Property Owners d) Residents / Tenants e) NGOs Agglomerated - ideas, suggestions, comments and contributions of stakeholders.
