TRAIN TO GAIN Provides impartial, independent advice on training to businesses across England Helps businesses improve productivity and competitiveness by ensuring employees have the right skills to do the best job Gives access to a Skills Broker who will help you consider what skills your business has now, and what you will need in the future

3 SKILLS BROKERS Free service to all businesses Independent and impartial Help you to identify skills gaps in your business Will recommend training solutions to best meet your needs Will find the right training provider and monitor progress Will help identify any available funding

4 OUR PORTFOLIO OF SUPPORT Leadership & Management Grant NVQs NVQ entitlement Skills for Life Contribution to wage Apprenticeships Bite size qualifications (new for SME’s) The Skills Pledge

5 THE LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT GRANT A £1000 grant to support Leadership & Management development staff One grant per organisation (usually most senior people) £500 for the CEO / MD / Owner Manager A further £500 (match funded) for senior management team Cannot be claimed retrospectively Will support training / coaching & mentoring /purchase of materials (CDs / books etc)

6 An introduction to NATIONAL VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (NVQs ) Work-related, competence-based qualifications Reflect the skills and knowledge needed to do a job effectively, and show that a candidate is competent in the area of work Based on national occupational standards NVQ training/ assessment is provided by a network of quality assured providers Work-based mentoring & assessment or day release Funding available subject to eligibility Levels 1-5 Level 1 – Foundation Skills Level 2 – Operative or Semi Skilled Level 3 – Technician, Craft, Skilled and Supervisory Level 4 – Technical and Junior Management Level 5 – Senior Management

7 NVQ ENTITLEMENT Fully funded training/ learning to anyone 19 or over who does not already have an NVQ 2 (Operative or Semi Skilled) or equivalent (5 GCSE / O Levels Grades A to C, or 2 AS Levels or 1 or more A levels) If an eligible person is deemed suitable for NVQ 3 (Technician, Craft, Skilled and Supervisory) they will be supported to achieve this For those that have already achieved a level 2 qualification there may be support to go on to achieve a further level 2. (Subsidies may also be available to go on to do an NVQ level 3 for these people)

8 SKILLS FOR LIFE Numeracy Literacy Recent studies show that up to 1 in 4 adults lack functional numeracy and literacy skills (equivalent to being able to look up a plumber in the phone book)

9 CONTRIBUTION TO WAGE For private sector employers with less than 50 full time employees, or equivalent Available when staff are accessing NVQ entitlement and/or Skills for Life Can claim £5 per hour or the actual hourly rate for employees released for direct training with a training provider You can claim up to a max of 70 hours in total Contribution paid upon achievement of approved qualification Note: Not available for individuals funded to achieve a 2 nd NVQ Level 2

10 APPRENTICESHIPS Apprenticeships equip young people with the skills and knowledge to do the job. The majority of Apprenticeships are fully funded for year olds and also available for those 19+ with a shared investment. Over 200 Apprenticeships available across more than 80 industry sectors –Apprenticeships: Working towards a NVQ 2, Key Skills and in most cases a technical certificate –Advanced Apprenticeships: Working towards NVQ Level 3, Key Skills and a technical certificate

11 NEW for SME’s UNIT QUALIFICATIONS Unit qualifications at Level 2,3 and 4 in ten business critical areas Units qualifications: oBusiness improvement techniques oBusiness systems/processes oTeam-working/communications oFinance and credit oRisk management oMarketing and sales oCustomer service oNew product design oCash flow and profit management oIT user /IT support Level 2: Fully funded Level 3/4: Shared investment For businesses employing up to 250 staff –Private sector / Private Schools / Third sector / Self employed (with or without employees) / Franchises / Sole traders
