Today’s Plan This is not a “how to” presentation. Podcasting background. How podcasting works on EIU campus. Explain how these tutorials came about. Demonstrate the tutorials. Tools used to create the vodcast tutorials. Conclusions. What I did wrong. What is next.

Podcasting is not just for iPods.... is a method of distributing multimedia files.... appeals to today’s generation of learners.... uses are limited only by your imagination.... is easy to do when you have the right tools.... tools are relatively inexpensive or FREE.

Podcasting Basic Podcast (Audio Only) Enhanced Podcast Slideshow with images, audio, links Video Podcast (Vodcast)

Podcasting at EIU <rdf:RDF xmlns:rdf=" xmlns=" bout=" XML.com k> XML.com features a rich mix of information and servicesvices for th for the XML community. ub/2000/08/09/xslt/xslt.html" /> <rdf tinput rdf:resource=" y.gif"> <title>XML.com</title> <link>htt ut=" Processing Inclusions with XSLT ons with XSLT</title> <link>

Podcasting at EIU

Students were given a massive PDF guide. Needed something more appropriate for today’s learners. Had to be accessible to all learners. Why Podcasting? Spent one to two weeks teaching software. Still... questions, questions and more questions.

Captioned Vodcast

Podcasts as Tutorials Podcasts do not need to be uploaded to web. Simply load Podcasts on computers as tutorials.

Podcast Creation Tools TextEdit and iLife... Included “free” on all new Macintosh Computers, or freeware Audacity available at QuickTime Pro... $29 (Mac and Windows) Snapz Pro X Snagit Microphone, Still and / or Video Camerad / or Video Camera

Captioned Vodcast Write script using a text editor and record it with GarageBand / Audacity. Open script text file in QT Pro and export as text to text file with show descriptors enabled. Collect or create video. Edit in iMovie as required. Export to iTunes.

Captioned Vodcast Play the movie and note time stamp values. Adjust time stamps on QT text file. Merge video and QT text files. Export as MP4 to flatten the video and text files. Export as podcast and post to web... or... Import video into GarageBand, add chapters and interactive links. Export as podcast and post to web.

Conclusions and Results A noticeable reduction in questions. 25 percent of class used the tutorials. Available for faculty and staff subscribers. Need to expand the Photoshop series and add vodcasts on computer use. Need to make cursors larger, fix link color and improve sound quality.
