© 2011 Autodesk Organize and Manage Your Intellectual Property with Autodesk® Vault Workgroup Projects Pascal Le Guellec Market Development Consultant, Data Management Adam Luttenbacher Sr User Experience Designer, Data Management

© 2011 Autodesk Class Summary Today, Autodesk Vault Workgroup controls all of your intellectual property and gives everybody controlled access to it to ensure that individuals are absolutely clear on the product, its specs, and defining information. Autodesk Vault Projects allow you to now organize and manage all project-related data in one seamless interface. This class will teach you about all of the many great enhancements made to the product that will greatly improve your data management experience.

© 2011 Autodesk Learning Objectives At the end of this class, you will be able to:  Create and manage Projects  Understand Project Categories and Properties on Folders  Make the most of Project Links  Use the Project/Folder View, Project Dashboard, and Reporting capabilities

© 2011 Autodesk Vault UI and Navigation Enhancements

© 2011 Autodesk Vault 2012 UI Enhancements Details  Folders shown in main grid  Small and Large Icon views  Grid enhancements Improved productivity through customized interface – Have it your way…

© 2011 Autodesk 6 Navigation Enhancements Details  Double-click to navigate into folders  Back/Forward Navigation  Move Up One Level Navigate easily through the Vault!

© 2011 Autodesk 7 Where Used Navigation Details  New content filter within Vault Professional 2012  Where Used tab provides an additional level of detail  Parent folders  Items  Change Orders Spend less time chasing down files and more time creating innovative designs

© 2011 Autodesk Projects

© 2011 Autodesk Why did we add Projects? Vault prior to 2012  No ability to organize the Vault data  Folders did not have Properties  Vault UI very text heavy, spreadsheet-like  Limited navigation, no navigation trail or bread crumb  “File Shares” discouraged  Separation of Item, ECO, and File data  Shortcuts unique to user’s profile Customer-driven enhancements

© 2011 Autodesk 10 Project Container and Navigation Details  New environment to manage all data types within a consolidated Project context  Simultaneously search across data types within Project  Projects are given:  Categories  User-Defined Properties Save navigation time by collecting all Digital data in one Project

© 2011 Autodesk Project Creation Details  Projects are ‘super folders’  Assigned to project categories

© 2011 Autodesk Project Categories Details  Communicate Project intent or purpose  Glyph color shown in folder icon  Drive Project property association

© 2011 Autodesk Project Properties Details  Manual assignment  Assign through folder category association  Editable using common Edit Properties dialog  Searchable

© 2011 Autodesk Links

© 2011 Autodesk Links in Vault  Share content without copying or moving files  Create Links to multiple object types  Concept: Vault ‘shortcuts’ to extend beyond individual machine  Organize all data for Project  Go To, Get Latest, etc will treat as original location Manage all data types within a consolidated Project context

© 2011 Autodesk Loading Projects Ways to create a link:  Edit menu > Copy and Paste as link  CTRL-C and CTRL-ALT-V (to paste as link)  RMB click, drag and drop > Create link

© 2011 Autodesk Operations on a Link Affects links only!  Delete  Move Affects the source of the link  All other commands  Check-In / Check-Out  Rename  Change State  Edit Routing (Change Orders)  Update (ITEMS)  Etc.

© 2011 Autodesk Link Searching and Security Links respect its source  Links can be searched in project folders  Links obey security of source  Links permissions added to existing roles

© 2011 Autodesk Technical comparison: Links and Shares Shares vs. Links  Legacy Share command is now obsolete  Created challenging workflows Upon migration, Shares become Links  Only the original file remains Like having the object in the linked location, while the object is still stored in one spot

© 2011 Autodesk Make the most of your Project Links

© 2011 Autodesk 21 Heterogeneous View All project data together in one place!  Organize  Files  Folders  Items  Change Orders  Flexible Contextual interface  Commands respond to the type of link chosen Work on all of your project data within the context of a project folder

© 2011 Autodesk 22 Heterogeneous Edit Properties Edit all project data together!  Entity classes supported  Files  Folders  Items  Change Orders  Edit multiple instances  Edit properties on more than one item or change order Edit the properties of all of your project data with one command

© 2011 Autodesk 23 Project Integration with Inventor and AutoCAD Access Project related data from within the add-in  Files  Items  Change Orders  Projects Bringing Items and ECOs closer to your designers

© 2011 Autodesk 24 Project Integration with Inventor Project based navigation within the CAD Add-In  Look in  Links to folders  Links to items  Links to change orders Open and Place file from link Access to all related Project data is even easier in Vault 2012

© 2011 Autodesk Project Dashboard

© 2011 Autodesk 26 Project Dashboard Dashboard style reporting  Built into the folder detail pane  Easy status updating  Reporting based on project structure data, including  Files  Sub-Projects  Items  Change orders Bringing immediate feedback on project status

© 2011 Autodesk Summary

© 2011 Autodesk Summary  Flexible Project Organization  Single source for all Project related objects (Files, Items, Change Orders)  Ease of use, usability enhancements in User Interface

© 2011 Autodesk What’s next with Project Folders?  DM6901 Looking into the Crystal Ball: A Sneak Peek at the Future of Autodesk® Vault  Vault 2013 “Grindstone” Beta  C5BFDB4D6291} C5BFDB4D6291}
