The first year of the Bald Eagles life it is a very dark bird The first year of the Bald Eagles life it is a very dark bird.  The body of this bird is two shades of brown darker on the breast and lighter brown on the lower body.  The difference between a Bald Eagle and a Golden Eagle is when a Bald Eagle lifts it’s wings you will see white in the wing-pits.  The Golden Eagle would have dark wing-pits.

In a juvenile Bald Eagle they are a mixture of brown and white; with a black beak in young birds.

This would be a picture of an adult Bald Eagle 4+ years old.

A photo taken of a mother bald eagle in her nest with her baby.

This Bald Eagles claws expanded and are ready to catch prey!

While they perch in a high spot it gives them a wide view of their surroundings.

While the mother eagle is relaxing at the nest the father is out foraging for food for their 3 babies.

Close up photo of the babies nesting and getting fed.

Both the male and female have a blackish-brown back and breast; a white head, neck, and tail; and yellow feet and beak.

What we do to make them endangered? Habitat destruction and degradation, illegally shooting them, and the contamination of their food source decreased a lot of the eagle population.

What can we do to help bald eagles recover? Protecting their habitats afforded by the (EPA) Endangered Species Act, the federal government’s banning of DDT, and conservation actions taken by the American public have helped bald eagles make a remarkable recovery.

~Fun facts~ bald eagles are powerful birds that may weigh 14 pounds and have a wingspan of 8 feet. Male eagles are smaller, weighing as much as 10 pounds and have a wingspan of 6 feet.

~Fun Facts~! Bald Eagles usually leave the nest at about 12 weeks old. Bald eagles can live a long time, with a record of 28 years in the wild and 36 years in captivity. Their call consists of weak chirping whistles, harsher and shriller from young Eagles. Calls can be between mating eagles or to warn of a predator.

More Fun Facts! The eagle's sharp, hooked beak helps it tear through its prey. The bald eagle largest nest of any North American bird was 13 feet deep, 8.2 feet wide, and 1.1 tons in weight. The Bald Eagle has been the national emblem of the United States since 1782
