A Healthy Start As an incentive for new members to sign up for personal training, upon enrollment they are presented with a “Healthy Start”. A Healthy Start is a free six week program that includes fitness assessments, trainer assisted workouts and instructions, personal evaluations and goal setting with personal coaches. The purpose is to get individuals actively involved in with their new healthy habits and introduce them to an opportunity to continue training with educated trainers.

New Employee Training Hire individuals that meet personal and educational requirements for the given position. Employees must be sociable, trustworthy, responsible and willing to help individuals meet their personal and physical goals. Those applying for personal training must at least possess an ACE (CBT) certification.

New Employee Training: The Circuit Many individuals seeking to become involved in personal training begin their work experience as a Circuit Trainer. The Circuit consists of an arrangement of nine machines ranging from lower to upper body exercises to work the individual’s entire body. It is primarily geared towards to the elderly, individuals focusing on rehabilitation and those just beginning a workout regimen. Circuit Trainers are required to set the machines to their appropriate settings so clients can simply walk in and exercise hassle free.

Circuit Training: Continued It is primarily geared towards to the elderly, individuals focusing on rehabilitation and those just beginning a workout regimen. Circuit Trainers are required to set the machines to their appropriate settings so clients can simply walk in and exercise hassle free. Use of the Circuit is included in the clients membership. Finally, no certification is required to be a Circuit Trainer.

New Employee Training: Personal Training Personal Training on the other hand requires at least an ACE (CPT) Certification. Also, all employees must be First Aid and CPR Certified. Responsible for initial evaluation and distribution of Health and Lifestyle Questionnaires Design Exercise Programs Ensure the safety of their clients. (Proper Warm-Up, Flexibility, and Strength Training Techniques) Nutritional Backgrounds are helpful, however the facility has their own Certified Nutritionist.

Training Methods Since the minimal certification requirement is an ACE (CPT) each personal trainer has the knowledge to design a full exercise program. These programs include: Strength/Resistance Training Cardiovascular Training Flexibility Training

Employee Scheduling Make sure that employee’s have fair and appropriate schedules. Must be flexible with student school schedules Understand Personal Commitments Must know where everyone is at any given time. Ensure that no client or co-workers end up short handed

Sales Each Personal Trainer is required to meet a specific sales quota in terms of revenue. In general, Healthtrax personal training offers plethora of exercise packages to fit the needs of all its members Like in every other profession, they are responsible to make a certain amount of sales during a given month. Healthtrax requires that each Personal Trainer obtain a $2500 quota.

Client Progression Each Personal Trainer is required to track the progression of their own clients progress and needs. However, the Director of Fitness and Coaching is responsible for tracking the progression of all clientele. If the client’s personal goals are not being met, the Director must take the actions needed to please the customer. (Vary work out plans in an attempt to receive results)

Oversee Duties The Director of Fitness and Coaching ensures that his/her staff are: On time for training sessions Supplying the client with quality service Attempting to further his/her knowledge of the field Maintaining Equipment

Room for Progress At Healthtrax there are 3 particular levels of progression referred to as “Tiers”. Tier 1 Tier 2 Tier 3 Each Tier represents the level of a profession a personal trainer has. When trainers improve their education, or receive more prestigious certifications they progress from one tier to the next, with Tier 3 being the highest.

Tier 1 Tier 1 represents the most basic level of Trainers available at Healthtrax. These trainers are only required to have an ACE (CPT) Certification as well as a First Aid and CPR Certification. Work usually starts on the Circuit and progresses in addition to a few clients. Pay is hourly and based off of the amount of sales Can be part time or full time employees

Tier 2 Tier two is the second level of Personal Coaches at Healthtrax It signifies that a trainer has spent 2 years working as a tier 1 trainer, or that a trainer has received an ACE,ACSM or NASM (CPT) Certification. Trainers also falling in this category usually are full time employees These trainers are also paid hourly and receive commission earned from training sales. Trainers have also enhanced their personal skills to optimize their sales

Tier 3 (Executive Director of Personal Coaches) This is the highest level of Personal Training currently at healthtrax. This Tier signifies that an individual has completed a 4 year undergraduate degree. Received a CSCS, NASM, ACSM, or ACE certification. These particular trainers receive salary pay and also make commission off sales. Currently one tier 3 personal coach at healthtrax.

Psychology Behind Sales Paul stressed to us that the field of personal training was heavily dependent on one’s ability to make sales. To accomplish this goal a trainer needs to market his ability to help others achieve their fitness goals. This requires a trainer to have a deep level of commitment to the individual they are training. The more successful and comfortable a client feels with the trainer the more likely they will continue to receive training.
