Heart Rate in Physical Education Ideas to bring the learning of heart rate and effective physical education into physical education. Megan Russ Health & Exercise Science: Physical Education

In Today’s Schools Physical Education in schools today has been slowly loosing the “Physical” aspect of the course. Students are getting graded commonly on whether they change that day instead of their actual exercise.

A NEW Software There is a way to monitor what the students are doing in our school’s physical education classes! Now students will be able to be assessed and graded by the physical work they put into the class.

Heart Rate Why is it important? The Target Heart Rate or Training Heart Rate (THR) is a desired range of heart rate reached during aerobic exercise which enables one's heart and lungs to receive the most benefit from a workout.

Including Heart Rate In H&PE A simple way to get the students working hard in PE classes and getting Target Heart Rate raised is by using a simple form of equipment called: Heart Rate Monitors

What is it? A heart rate monitor is an electric device that is used to monitor heart rate during exercise. The major use of the heart rate monitor is to make sure to maintain an optimal heart rate during the workout. Includes: Wrist Unit ( similar to a watch ). Heart Rate Monitoring Software

Beneficial to Students Students will first learn about heart rate and why it is so important to their physical activity. Then they will be able to calculate their maximum heart rate and their resting heart rate. This will allow them to understand where their target heart rate should lie during their PE classes.

Included in Teaching

Equipment Involved Jump Rope Medicine Ball Exercise Trampoline Various forms of equipment possibly used in a cardiovascular activity in Physical Education that would work well when using the heart rate monitors Jump Rope Medicine Ball Exercise Trampoline Heart Rate Watch

Polar Training Software Software Included Polar Training Software A comprehensive set of plans that are available for all heart rate monitor users. Each one has been specially designed by professional coaches to support every part of your training, whatever your level. From beginners to top athletes and everyone in-between, all the tools you need to make the most out of your training are right here.

Why? Physical Education has been looking for ways to become innovative to get students more involved. Includes the students in their own physical fitness and making them knowledgeable about how to become healthy and what a good exercise consists of (heart rate zone).
