Dyslexia A general term for disorders that involve difficulty in learning to read or interpret words, letters, and other symbols, but that do not affect general intelligence.

Dyslexic symptoms  The child is a late talker  Pronunciation problem  Difficulty rhyming words  Impaired ability to learn basics e.g. alphabet, colours and numbers  They have poor handwriting and poor fie motor skills  The can confuse letters such as b and d.  Difficulty with reading, spelling and writing  Trouble with time and learning to tell the time as a child  Difficulty reading maps  They can also have trouble following sequences and can have difficulty telling left from right

treatment There is no known cure for dyslexia, however early intervention can help.  understand there limitations  Add more time for test and school work  Write down there daily routine instead of verbal commands  Seat the child near the teacher  If you have a large section of writing underline every second line in alternate colours  save the child the ordeal of reading aloud in class, pre reading can encourage self confidence  Most dyslexic children have difficulty self correcting as they write, allow time after for proof reading  Simplify math problems  Put decimal points in a different colour to make in more obvious  Allow extra time for homework  When giving written instructions make it straight to the point with a clear layout to prevent confusion
