“We gotta win that fight tonight. We gotta get even with those Socs “We gotta win that fight tonight. We gotta get even with those Socs! Let's do it for Johnny, man. We'll do it for Johnny! “ darry. At this point the reader is informed of the true dispute between the greasers and socs. The socs beat up johnny, so the greasers are ready to get even.

“ I think I like it better when the old man’s hittin me.” johnny. Johnny has horrible parents. They never showed him love or affection. His father beats him up and his mother ignores him. Although you could hear his mother yelling at him clear down to ponyboy's house. If it wasn’t for the gang, Johnny probably would have ran away a long time ago.

“It’s okay. We aren’t in the same class “It’s okay. We aren’t in the same class. Just don’t forget that some of us watch the sunset too(66).” Ponyboy tries to get cherry to see that the dispute between the socs and the greasers relates to the sunset. Socs and greasers are treated differently when it comes to many things, but they still live in the same world. They still look at the same sun.

“Greasers will still be greasers and Socs will still be Socs “Greasers will still be greasers and Socs will still be Socs. Sometimes I think it’s the ones in the middle that are really the lucky stiffs. Randy. he tells Ponyboy that he will not be fighting in the rumble. He appears to believe that, despite their youth, the young men in the story will never be able to move on and get pass the ‘gang life’
