Preventative Maintenance Plumbing –Check for leaks –Wrap with insulation to prevent winter freezing Fireplace –Clean chimney to avoid flue fires Dryer –Clean filter before each use Rain Gutters –Clean out in the spring and the fall

Corrective Maintenance Repair where ceiling has leaked –Replace shingles –Cover spot with Kilz –Repaint

Line Horizontal –across Can make the ceiling seem lower by painting a line below the ceiling Vertical –Up or down Can make the ceiling seem higher by hanging drapes from ceiling to floor

Balance Equal weight to the space on both side of an imaginary center line –Symmetrical Objects on either side the same –Candlesticks on either end of a mantle –Asymmetrical Unmatched but appear to have equal visual weight –Loveseat on one side of the room and two club chairs that are about the same size together as the loveseat on the other size

Variety Combine different, but compatible, styles and materials Too much variety can create confusion –Three different styles of furniture ignores the principle of variety
