The LORD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him. Exodus 15:2 (ESV) Praise Him Praise Him #12 – vs. 1,2,3

Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all. And now we thank you, our God, and praise your glorious name. 1 Chronicles 29:12-13 (ESV) As the Deer #548 vs. 1,2,3

Hebrews The Superiority of Christ Beware of Unbelief Hebrews 3:7-19

7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear his voice, 8 do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness, 9 where your fathers put me to the test and saw my works for forty years. 10 Therefore I was provoked with that generation, and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart; they have not known my ways.’ 11 As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall not enter my rest.’” Hebrews 3:7-19 (ESV)

12 Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. 13 But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. Hebrews 3:7-19 (ESV)

15 As it is said, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” 16 For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses? 17 And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient? 19 So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief. Hebrews 3:7-19 (ESV)

3 Parts of this passage as it deals with the danger of unbelief

1) EXHORTATION from the past (verses 7-12) 7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear his voice, 8 do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness, 9 where your fathers put me to the test and saw my works for forty years. 10 Therefore I was provoked with that generation, and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart; they have not known my ways.’ 11 As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall not enter my rest.’”

1) EXHORTATION from the past (verses 7-12) 12 Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.

1) EXHORTATION from the past (verses 7-12) A) Unbelief is a CHOICE “do not harden your hearts...” (verse 8)

1) EXHORTATION from the past (verses 7-12) B) Unbelief causes CONTENTION “Therefore I was provoked...” (verse 10)

1) EXHORTATION from the past (verses 7-12) C) Unbelief has COSEQUENCES “They shall not enter my rest...” (verse 11)

2) ENCOURAGEMENT for today (verses 13-15) 12 Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. 13 But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

2) ENCOURAGEMENT for today (verses 13-15) 14 For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end. 15 As it is said, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”

2) ENCOURAGEMENT for today (verses 13-15) A) LOOK out for each other “Take care, brothers...” (verse 12)

2) ENCOURAGEMENT for today (verses 13-15) A) LOOK out for each other “exhort one another every day...” (verse 12) B) LIFT up each other

2) ENCOURAGEMENT for today (verses 13-15) A) LOOK out for each other “for we have come to share in Christ...” (verse 14) B) LIFT up each other C) LIVE with each other

3) EXPOSURE of unbelief's presence (verses 16-19) 16 For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses? 17 And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient? 19 So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.

3) EXPOSURE of unbelief's presence (verses 16-19) Question - For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Answer - Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses?

3) EXPOSURE of unbelief's presence (verses 16-19) A) GLORIOUS beginnings do not guarantee happy endings

3) EXPOSURE of unbelief's presence (verses 16-19) Question - And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Answer - Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?

3) EXPOSURE of unbelief's presence (verses 16-19) B) GOD'S visibility in your life does not guarantee belief

3) EXPOSURE of unbelief's presence (verses 16-19) Question - And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest (?)` Answer -...but to those who were disobedient?

3) EXPOSURE of unbelief's presence (verses 16-19) C) GUIDANCE from God does not release you of personal responsibility

Parting Words of Instruction – REALIZE the reality of unbelief – RELY on one another – RESIST unbelief's temptation – REINFORCE your faith daily

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all. 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (ESV) Jesus is Calling #482 vs. 1,2,4
