“Let us cross over to the other side” Mk 4: Implementing Synod 2009

Implementation In T&T we are great at conversation, design and decision. Where we always fall down is implementation. What is going to be different about Synod 2009? 2

Living the Mission The whole Synod is preparing the Church to live the mission. The Archbishop will deliberate over the resolutions and as he sees fit promulgate them as the direction of the Church for the next five years. The business of Synod implementation will be the business of the Archdiocese at every level. 3

Living the Mission We have to Plan, organize and structure for the mission of the church at every level: Archdiocese as a whole The Commissions The Vicariate The Parish Religious Communities The Ecclesial Communities The Catholic School Catholic Organizations Prayer groups

Living the Mission: First Things First Prayer—Remember our first day when the equipment would not work? Commitment to ongoing conversion. Commitment to discipleship Commitment to calling forth men and women who would courageously live the Gospel. Commitment to vocations discernment.

Living the Mission: Begin with the End in Mind We the delegates of Synod 2009 must imagine what success (the other side) would look like in five years time. It begins with us, the People of God gathered here—it goes back to our vicariate, parishes, groups, schools, family and the nation. We must commit to the crossing or remain on these familiar shores.

Structuring for mission Archbishop to appoint an Archdiocesan Implementation Team Every parish and Ecclesial community to appoint a Synod Implementation Team Leaders at every level of the Archdiocese to participate in ongoing formation for transformational leadership Each parish, School and Ecclesial community to conduct a pastoral audit to determine its needs and resources for successful implementation of Synod 2009 Resolutions Each Parish, school and Ecclesial community to prepare a Pastoral Plan Parishes to be made user friendly through the appointment of Parish Coordinators Synod 2009 with the Mission of the Church and the three pastoral priorities must become priority for resource management and budget allocation.

Structuring for Mission If you want to cross to the other side you must get into the boat. What is going to change? What happens when someone in leadership decides that he/she wants to stay on this side? What do we say and do?

Structuring for Mission: Stewardship Time Talent Treasure

Structuring for Mission: Stewardship The Church has all of the resources needed to implement Synod You have to release them for mission You have to hold us accountable for what you entrusted to us. I have asked Raymond Syms to do a Skills Database on the website; this will help us as Church to see what resources are available for this monumental challenge.

Forming the Vicariate team We need a team of Lay people in every Vicariate who have: Experience in leading an organization. Project Management Skills Public Relations, Marketing and Branding skills. Process/facilitation skills Finance and budgeting skills Training and development skills Together with Vicariate representatives for Catechetics, Social Justice and Family life

Archdiocesan Need We need a Research and Development group to: Formulate, implement and analyze surveys. Use SPSS for data analysis Pull all of the data that we have into a central unit that has the capacity to analyze and report. Research key areas that are critical for Synod implementation.

Archdiocesan Need Some of our resolutions have asked us to change public opinion: Attract and Train Religious Education Teachers Promote and foster Teaching as a vocation Deepen the spirit of Communion and solidarity Reaffirm Sunday as the Lord’s Day Promote our identity as a Eucharistic People Promote Eucharist as an invitation to communion, solidarity, conversion and mission Promote Inculturation of the Faith Uniquely Catholic elements of faith--imagination Pro-life issues Modesty in dress

Archdiocesan Need This requires specific skills in market research, marketing and forming public opinion. This Group will work with CAMSEL to find the most appropriate ways to deliver on these issues.

Stewardship If you know you have these skills or knows someone who does (vicariate and R&D) Go to the secretarial desk at the back and put your information on the relevant sheet. If you do not offer us your gifts, we cannot align the Church with the mission of Christ.

Ranking the Resolutions We will review all of the resolutions and create a priority list today to assist us with implementation.

Living the Mission It begins with each of us building the Civilization of Love—reconciliation with God, neighbour, Creation and self. Each of us can begin living the mission today. This is about forgiveness, right relationship and conversion.
