Lubliniec

The town of Lubliniec is located at the Lublinica river, in the valley of The Mała Panwia River. It is situated in the Silesian Voivodeship. Lubliniec is an important rail hub, with two major lines crossing there: east-west (from Częstochowa to Opole) and south-north (from Katowice to Poznań) Location: N= 50 41’ E=18 41’

The beginnings of Lubliniec bring us back to the 13th century. It is said that Lubliniec started with a hunting castle, built around 1272 by Duke Władysław Opolski. What's our town's history?

According to a legend the name of the town originates from the words uttered by Władysław I Opolczyk, who, when hunting in the local woods, was to say I enjoy being here. There is an association between Lubliniec and a Polish verb lubić, which means to enjoy, to like. These words are believed to constitute the origin of the name Lubliniec.

In Lubliniec there are 24,000 inhabitants

Amongst celebrities who live in Lubliniec, there are the family of Jerzy Buzek, the Prime Minister and President of European Parliament Polish OYAMA Karate Champion Justyna Cyrulik Anna Kołodziej, a Europe Champion Edith Stein, a catholic saint and the patron of Lubliniec and Europe Karol Mańka, a scout, member of a resistance organization ”Orzeł Biały” (White Eagle) Paweł Golaś, one of the leaders of Silesian Insurrections Konstanty Damrot, a poet and a rhetorician.

In the town there are various cultural and sports possibilities: - the Museum Pro Memoria Edith Stein, - a Song and Dance Ensemble „Halka” - a world-famous Song and Dance Ensemble ”Śląsk” is situated in the nearbyKoszęcin. - a small swimming pool, - gyms, - karate and aikido clubs, - multifunctional sports areas.

In Lubliniec there are five secondary schools and a public music school of the 1st degree.

The town is excellent for relax as it’s located amongst woods and numerous water reservoirs. These advantages make the town perfect for practicing various forms of recreation, especially cycling, trekking, water sports and cultural tourism. Everybody is welcomed to take part in Bieg Katorżnika race (running in extremely hard conditions) or Bieg o Nóż Komandosa race (long distance running).

The Lubliniec land is also a wonderful spot for organizers of annual competitions of dog harnesses, which attract breeders and lovers of husky dogs from Poland and from all over Europe. The town also promotes walking tourism. Tourists routes leading through Lubliniec have been laid out for the fans of this form of recreation.
