WATER QUALITY TESTING Northlandswood School 8 th June 2015

WHAT WE DID: We looked at 4 different types of water: Bottled water Flavoured water Tap water Sprite Water from the local reservoir. We then tested the water looking at measuring: Temperature Dissolved oxygen Nitrate Phosphate pH level This measurement gave us a score we could then compare the different waters.

RESULTS: A TABLE SHOWING THE DIFFERENT SCORES FOR THE WATER TESTING. Type of waterScore (test 1) Score (test2) Water quality index Bottled water11103 Tap water10 3 Water from reservoir Sprite Flavoured water11-3

WHAT WE FOUND OUT: We know that bottled water is safe to drink and that meant that a score of around10 would be ok to drink. That meant tap water, sprite and flavoured water, which also scored around ten, would also be ok to drink. However the reservoir water scored a higher score which meant it needed to be purified before drinking. To be even more accurate there are more tests we could do. This would give us a very accurate measurement.

WHAT WE DID NEXT: We then contacted two other schools in other parts of the world and compared some of our results to theirs. The two schools were in Russia and Nigeria. They were: Country: Russia City: Novuy Urengoy School Name: Novuy Urengoy's Professional College Country: Nigeria City: Port Harcourt School Name: Niger Delta Science School

RESULTS: A TABLE SHOWING THE DIFFERENT SCORES FOR THE WATER TESTING. PlaceTap water score (water quality index) Local water (reservoir/ river) (water quality index) U.K33 Nigeria2.5-- Russia33

WHAT WE FOUND OUT: When we looked at our results it looked like the tap water got the same score in the different countries. This meant that the water may be OK to drink. However, none of the schools did a bacteria test. If we had done this then the water scores may have been different.
