  Vision  Class Promise  Objective  What lessons will we cover today?  Mini-lessons  Our Plan  Your next steps  Questions? Agenda

  Our vision is that Michigan Great Lakes Virtual Academy (MGLVA) will be a true “school of excellence”: a high-performing school that produces exemplary levels of student achievement, equips every student with the foundation they need to graduate, and prepares students for any post-secondary opportunity they wish to pursue. Vision of MGLVA

  Today I will be able to….  Learn about drafting a body, introduction, and conclusion of a paper  Learn about how good writers keep fragments and run on sentences OUT of their writing! Objective: Our Goal Today!

 We will go through lessons 5-7 in unit 3 in composition! You’ll be able to work with your learning coach later and mark these lessons complete! I will have next steps for you at the end of our lesson!

 Lesson 5: Drafting the Body of a Report (Page 43)

 Lesson 5: Drafting the Body of a Report (Page 43)

  The beginning a report is called it’s introduction. This is a very important part of the report! It also must announce the topic of your report. You want to draw your readers in!  Ways to draw readers in with your introduction: 1.Ask a Question: “Have you ever wondered about…..?” 2.Tell an amazing fact! 3.Use sounds and effects: “WHAM! The basketball slammed into the hoop!” 4.Use a quote you found while researching Lesson 6: Drafting the introduction of a report

  Take 3 minutes and try to think of a GREAT way to start your introduction to your own report….  3 kids will get to share on the microphone!  1.  2.  3. **Quick note, your introduction also briefly tells the readers of your subtopics!*** Let’s try that with our own topics…

  Finally, we get to wrap up our writing with an amazing conclusion! This comes at the end your report:  Let’s check out one….. Lesson 7: Drafting the Conclusion of a report

 Lesson 7: Drafting the conclusion of a report

  As you begin drafting your report, there are two things we want you to keep in mind as you write:  1. Good writers do not write in FRAGMENTS: example: In the field.  2. Good writers do not write RUN ON SENTENCES: Example:  To practice these, we are going to have you work in study island and complete a topic. Let’s try a few from the island… A few more things to consider…from Study Island!

 Fragment…

 Run on sentence…

 Our plan for this writing sample:

  Go through lessons 5-7 in Unit 3 of composition on your plan. Mark them all complete.  Have your draft written by our Dec. 10 th class.  Come to class December 10 th and learn how edit and revise our report!  Also complete your study topic: Fragments and Run on’s  Nothing has to be turned into us until January 9 th remember, but we are going through the writing process with you on this assignment! Next steps for you…
