Community Service By: Erin Walker

Second Harvest Food Bank It is the largest hunger relief organization in South Georgia! This facility annually provides over 6 million pounds of food to over 300 local charities each year. America's Second Harvest of South Georgia hosts programs like The Valdosta Food Bank, Rescue Valdosta, Kids Cafe', Manna Truck, and the Community Kitchen Program.

Second Harvest Food Bank Continued Through these innovative programs, we are ending hunger in our region. A lot of students participate in helping feed our community at The Second Harvest Food Bank! It is amazing how many people gather throughout the community to help out those in need of food.

What We Did! A group of people and myself from our FYE program at Valdosta State University went to volunteer at our local Second Harvest Food Bank. We basically sorted out food from what was good and what was bad. It was hard work, but it was worth it!

Good Will I volunteered at Good Will for a couple of hours own my own one day after class. Basically, they asked me to straighten up the shelves and the clothes. I also swept the floors and helped customers find things like prices. Volunteering at Good Will was actually fun! I liked looking around the store.

How to get involved with Second Harvest Food Bank! Go to their web site, which is n/index.shtml. n/index.shtml Contact their main office and ask for a time that you can go and volunteer. (229) Harbin Cir Valdosta, GA 31601

Why do we need to volunteer? It’s a great way to communicate with your community! It helps us to appreciate what we have and to not take things like food for granted! It feels good to help others! A lot of people depend on your help!

S.L Mason Elementary School A group from our FYE class went to S.L Mason to do volunteer work. They had a field day on Friday, April 28 th. We basically played with the children and helped out with specific activities.

S.L Mason Continued I chose to volunteer at S.L. Mason because in the future, I want to become an elementary school teacher, and this was a great way to get involved in the school systems.

What I have Learned! I have learned a lot this year while doing community service. Helping others can actually be fun! It gives people a since of accomplishment when they do nice things for other people I am so glad that we were required to do community service in FYE!
